With regard to starting a business and being employed, once the applicants get the Non-B visa, they can enter Thailand by using a single-entry visa that is valid for 90 days. Practically, foreigners apply for a tourist/non-immigrant visa first during their settlement arrangement. * Other categories as determined by the Thai Immigration Office.
The applicant who applies through the marriage category must earn at least 30,000 Baht per month. As for other categories, the applicants’ monthly income should be at least 80,000 Baht a month. The applicants can submit the 3-year personal tax statements proving the income requirements when they have lived in Thailand for a minimum of 3 years. Once the application for permanent residency is approved, the applicant will receive a blue book. This book is applicable to the registration of the place of residence in Thailand at the local district office to obtain a house card. A week later, s/he will receive a residence certificate which entitles the holder to apply for an alien book (red book) at the local police station. The red book is equivalent to the Thai national ID card and it is required to be re-registered every year.
The residency permit never expires, except in the unusual case that it is revoked. To travel abroad, however, the visa holder needs to get a re-entry permit before leaving Thailand. Having held the Permanent Resident Visa for 10 consecutive years, the person can apply for the status of a Thai naturalized citizen.
